Natalie is four!

Another year has passed and my little girl has become a four year old (though for some reason, today she keeps insisting she's three). It's been a very full year for her with a lot of firsts: her first plane trip, her first international trip, her first time being in another country (actually, those have been a lot of firsts for me too!), and more that I'm not thinking of at the moment. It's been a challenging year as Natalie has definitely been trying to assert her independence more and more and yet wants to depends on us for many things like boo-boos and having her bottom wiped after using the bathroom. This next year is going to be especially challenging for her as her reign as an only child will end with the arrival of her new brother/sister in mid-July. I'm not sure how she's going to respond to this but we're trying to do everything we can to prepare her for this momentous occasion. I only hope that before too long, a trip home will be in our future as I think that will help Natalie deal with some of these big life changes. I know it would help me!

Not sure at this point what I will be going as far as blogs go. I can either have this blog be about both kids or have a new blog for the new baby. We'll see as time goes on, I guess.

Not much is planned for today. Natalie unfortunately woke up with quite a bit of a cough and I've been battling a particularly nasty case of morning sickness today. She was supposed to be getting some pictures done but we canceled that for next week. She still has a few presents I'll be giving her today and John has already picked up her cake. That totally was cheating too; it came free, a gift from one of the parents at his school. We took her to the aquarium yesterday since it was the last day she would be free (I know, we're awful). She enjoyed it. She got a huge kick out of the exhibits where fish are in weird places (soda machines, traffic lights, washing machine, etc). She liked seeing the sharks too and the jelly fish. And, as always, she enjoyed finding Nemo. So, not a really big day for her but then I didn't even get my first big birthday party until I was 8.

I'd say I hope that this year won't be quite so difficult behavior wise as last year but considering we have a new baby coming, I'm not going to hold my breath. If anything, she's likely to become more difficult as the year goes on and sibling rivalry rears its ugly head.
